His Dirty Bargain by Fiona Murphy

Title: His Dirty Bargain
Series: Dirty Billionaires #3
Author: Fiona Murphy
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: October 22, 2019

Blurb

Three billionaire brothers:
Cesare, Enzo, and Dante Sabatini have everything except the one thing money
can’t buy. Three big beautiful, women Alicia, Bethany, and Chloe will teach
them the ABCs of love. Follow these couples as they negotiate the riskiest deal
of all, falling in love.

My biological clock has been pounding. Any minute now, I'm going to hit
buy on the sperm that's been sitting in my online cart for the last six
months.... any minute. I want to be a
single mom. The last five years without a man have been the best years of my
life. Except, I do want kids, six if I had my way. But if I’m doing it alone, I
can’t really afford more than one.
At least what I need I can get off a website. I had no idea men had
biological clocks too, but Enzo Sabatini proved otherwise. The control-freak
billionaire married a gold-digging womb to get the children he wanted, and not
surprisingly it blew up in his face. With the ink barely dry on his divorce
that lasted longer than his marriage, I'm tasked with finding him a new place
to live. I can't believe it's really heat I see in his eyes when he looks at
me. I'm nothing like his usual women, plus size compared to size zero.
Shock is an understatement when I see the ring. I can barely process his
insane proposal of me getting the dream house and the multifamily property I
want in exchange for at least ten years and two kids. Wait, what? What kind of
effing proposal is that? It's not a marriage proposal, it's a bargain—one with
limits and terms and signed off by lawyers. I don't care how hot he is; he's
lost his mind.
So why do I say not yet instead of no? Is this going to be
the biggest mistake of my life, or is there any way we can make a
happy-ever-after from this dirty bargain?

Excerpt

A hand
wraps around my arm as he drags me after him. “What the hell is going on with
you?” he thunders once we’re out on the front lawn.
“Don’t yell
at me, damn it! Are you fucking serious? You tell my boss a personal plan in a
light meant to shame and embarrass me over brunch, you belittle me, you ignore
me, then you want to know what is going on with me?”
Shaking his
head, he takes a deep breath. “Don’t forget I let the tiny blonde close to me.”
Violence
erupts from me and I shove him, hard. “She fucking touched you like she had
every right to.” Oh god, I didn’t do that.
The bastard
laughs as he tugs me close. I’m so ashamed I can’t look at him even though I
want to push him away from me, pissed that he’s daring to laugh. “Fuck, woman,
you are driving me crazy. Why can’t you be normal?”
With a sigh
I give in to resting my head on his chest. All at once, the anger and pain
disappears as I inhale his scent, feel his body against mine. “I’m not going to
apologize. Normal is boring. If I were normal you wouldn’t look at me twice,
you would have already moved on to your next bimbo.”
“Hmm…” His
hand runs up and down my back soothingly. “I won’t lie, you’re right. Bimbos
are boring, you could never be called boring. So I’ve been thinking…” He pulls
out something shiny from his pocket. No, it can’t be. Holy fuck, it is. “I have
another deal to offer you. Marry me and we’ll fill this place with laughter and
memories. Help me turn it from a house into a home. I want at least two kids,
any more is up to you, and in return I’ll buy you the multifamily property you
want, and this place is yours free and clear as long as we hit ten years. We
give it at least ten years and you’ll think you’ve won the lottery. If you want
out any sooner, I’ll make you regret ever meeting me.”
I stumble
back from him on shaky legs, staring at the enormous ring in horror. “What kind
of marriage proposal was that? It was a marriage proposal, right?” How could he
say such awful things at the same time as asking me to marry him? “Have you
lost your mind?”
At least he
has the decency to blush. “What? It’s an honest deal between two people, a hell
of a lot more honest than ninety percent of the proposals happening any given
day. I get it, you have a hard time trusting men are going to stick around,
treat you well, and be faithful. The ring gives you the first one, and I don’t
have a problem with either the second or third thing. I bought this house for
you, you can make it anything you want. If we divorce you’ll get it in the
settlement on top of the multifamily and more than generous alimony, as long as
I get custody of the kids.”
This is a
dream, a nightmare, a crazy Klonopin-induced nightmare because who the hell
would believe this is real? I’m shaking my head, trying to clear it, trying to
figure out what is happening. The ring is thrust in my face again. It’s
enormous, an odd pinkish peach color. “What is it?”
“It’s a
padparadscha, a kind of sapphire. Normally, I wouldn’t have gotten something so
big at twenty-eight carats, but the only other one they had was only four
carats and that didn’t seem right at all. A diamond didn’t seem unique enough
for you. I’m also willing to admit I didn’t want any man thinking you were
available.” He shrugs.
And it’s
the sweetest thing I think he’s ever said. How could he say that while also
saying all the other crap? “We’ve known each other a week, less than a week. I
can’t marry you, it’s crazy.”
“How is it
crazy? We both know what we want, we both want the same thing, and we both want
each other. When something’s right it’s right. When you know you know. What
difference does it make from one week to one year?”
“Because, I
don’t know how you like your coffee. I don’t know your favorite food, color, or
book. I don’t know if you sleep naked or in pajamas. I don’t know anything
about you other than you have way too much money, an enormous ego, and okay,
yes, I want to have sex with you, but that doesn’t make a marriage, not even
one for just ten years.”
“We
couldn’t make a marriage without the sex.”
“I don’t
want to breastfeed. I’ll do everything I can to make sure I have a C-section up
to and including bribing my doctor. Even if I didn’t have to work, I want to
after my maternity leave is over. I want six kids, not two, not four, six. I
want private school but not religious schools. I don’t want to take my kids to
church on Sundays, I want them to choose what they believe in. I don’t want to
do the Santa myth thing or the tooth fairy. I want my kids to know they’re
important, but I refuse to let them believe the world revolves around them.
Those are important, those things could break up a marriage. Those are the
things you learn over the course of dating and having an actual relationship
instead of just jumping into a marriage.”
“So you’re
saying, no?”
Oh god, he
actually looks sad, then he blinks and it’s gone. Deep down I want to scream yes,
fuck caution, fuck that it’s too soon, he wants me, bought a house for me,
he bought a ring, except he’s saying
things like ten years and threatening me with horrors unknown if I dare to want
a divorce before ten years. Fear outweighs everything. “I’m saying not
yet.”
“I should
have known.” He flicks the ring at me. I can’t catch it, it falls at my feet.
“Keep it, I sure as fuck don’t want it. Use it to go toward your sperm donor.”
I can’t believe he’s just walking away.
I’m frozen
where I stand. It was real. Enzo Sabatini just asked me to marry him. No, he
offered me a deal, a bargain, one with a whole lot of strings he would use to
tie me up. The insane ring glints up at me. I bend down; it’s heavy. Don’t
do it, Chloe.
A sick curiosity has me slipping it on my left ring finger.
My stomach flips a dozen times—it fits perfectly.
In the
moment I was positive I did the right thing, but now…I’m not sure anymore.

Vivian came
out of the walk-in closet holding a small wood box. "Hey, Ellie, I found
this on the shelf under his jeans."
"What
is it? I don't recognize it."
Vivian
handed it to her. Eleanor set it on the dresser before flipping the top up.
Inside sat a miscellaneous collection of items. Eleanor picked up the photo off
the top of the pile. It was one of the two of them, Gary in uniform and Eleanor
pinning his badge to his chest. They both looked so young, so expectant and
happy for the future to come. She touched his face with her finger, wishing it
were really him. "This is at Gary's academy graduation."
"I've
never seen this one before." Vivian took the photo and turned it over.
"Look, he wrote something on the back."
She handed
the photo back to Eleanor. She turned it over and recognized Gary's tight
script. He'd only written two words: My
love.
Eleanor
held the photo to her heart. "He never came across as a romantic man but
maybe he really was."
"Judging
by the things he held onto, I'd say he was very romantic." Marietta pushed
the box toward her. "Look."
She did.
The next things she saw, the twins' hospital bracelets from the day they were
born, brought moisture to her eyes. She thought she'd thrown those away. A
cocktail napkin from their favorite date night spot, a seashell painted with
the words St. Lucia from their honeymoon, the first pair of cufflinks she'd
ever given him. She'd found them at a tag sale. They weren't worth anything but
the crystal blue stones had exactly matched the color of his eyes.
"I
can't believe he kept all these things." Eleanor wiped at her eyes and
sniffed.
"I
can," Vivian said. "You were his whole world."
"And
now he's gone and this is what I am left with." Eleanor pushed the box
away.
Marietta
reached in and pulled out a pink hair tie. "But, what if that is why he
saved all these things? So, that if something ever did happen to him, you'd
know the things that were important to him and how much he loved you."
"Maybe."
Eleanor took the hair tie from Marietta. "I used to wear that all the time
when the twins were babies. They liked to yank my hair so I kept it braided.
I'd wondered where it had gotten off to."
"This
is your piece of Gary. He left it behind for you," Vivian said.
She nodded,
her eyes filling with tears. "I had no idea he'd been doing this all these
years."
"Do
you want to look at the rest of it?" Marietta asked. "We can leave
you alone for a few minutes."
Eleanor
reached for a tissue on her nightstand and blew her nose. She shook her head.
"I can't right now." Eleanor closed the lid. "If I go through
the rest of this now, I'll never get these clothes taken care of."
"The
clothes can wait, Ellie," Vivian said. "If you want them to."
"No.
I'm not ready to look at it all now." She picked up the box and walked
over to the night stand. Pulling out the drawer, she tucked the box inside and
closed the drawer again. She needed to look at the rest of the contents when
her heart wasn't so fragile. Preferably alone so she could take the time to
cherish each item's memory.

I stared out at the rowdy, spontaneous party going on around
us, but all I could think about were his hands touching me, his arms holding me
against him. So this was what Cassie meant when she said the rest of the world
peeled away and the only things left were the two of us. It was as if nothing
else existed at that moment, just Jameson and me, moving slowly around the dance
floor. We were no longer moving to the rhythm of the music. We were just moving
in unison, pressed closely against each other, dangerously close. Every part of
me reacted to his touch. The strength of his arms, the warmth of his body, the
scent of his soap, it was all so damn intoxicating I couldn't help but
fantasize about Jameson taking my hand, pulling me back to his trailer to rip
off my clothes and restart where we'd left off nine years ago.

In my defense, I didn’t know she was his sister

"Sexy

This team hates me. Something about my chronic case of resting prick
face and that thing with the captain when the season started.

My fist, his jaw. Yeah, we go back and not in a good way.

Coach says no more “confrontational BS” or I don’t play at all. And
that’s a hit my career in the NHL can’t take.

So the plan is simple. Keep my head down and finish out my contract
with my fists checked.

There’s just one problem.

Allie. The
girl from Vancouver eight months ago. The one with the sexy, shy, and sinfully
bold smile and the sweetest, wettest mouth I ever tasted. The girl who blew my
mind and then blew out of my life without giving me her number.

Turns out she’s the captain’s little sister.

And even though my career depends on it... I can’t stay away from
her.

When I get home, I kick my Chucks into the corner
by the closet and look around my empty apartment feeling at loose ends. I don’t
trust myself with the replay of the game I just watched. I can’t handle seeing
Vaughn Vassar looking at me like that again tonight. Not without risking things
neither of us ought to risk.
Closing my eyes, I slowly lower myself to sit at
the stepdown to the living area and try to focus on all the reasons leaving the
bar was the right thing to do. Telling myself that kiss from this afternoon was
a mistake, no matter how good it felt.
So good.
I could be back at the bar in—
Knock, knock, knock.
Sucking in a startled breath, I push to my feet. My
heart speeds as that restless feeling in my belly turns into a kind of
instinctual pull that draws me to the door.
I don’t have to check to know this isn’t my
brother.
It’s not George looking to chat, or Helene showing
up with snacks and office gossip.
Not tonight.
My fingers tingle as I reach for the knob, my heart
races, and my mind empties of all the reasons this is a mistake. Of everything
except the relief surging through my veins as I swing the door open. Vaughn is
braced against the frame again. He’s lost the suit jacket, and his big arms are
flexed and straining as he barely holds himself back.
“I shouldn’t be here,” he says, the words gravel
rough and rubbing against me in ways that only make me want to hear more. “I
don’t even have a fucking excuse to check on you.”
“But you came anyway,” I whisper, drinking him in.
“I came anyway.”
The muscle in his jaw jumps over and again as his
silver eyes swirl with an intensity that matches the energy coming off him in
waves. I shouldn’t be reaching for him, but I don’t think I could stop if I
tried. I want this. I want him. My fingers curl into the gap between the
buttons of his dress shirt and I tug.
There’s a beat of resistance when he pulls back and
our eyes connect—and then he’s launching forward on a growl so savagely
possessive, I feel it through the deepest part of me. That big arm I couldn't
stop staring at sweeps around me as his mouth crashes against mine in a feral
kiss. This isn’t tender or tentative. It’s desperate and hungry and has me half
climbing his body before my shoulders hit the door he just swung shut with his
foot.
Hands roaming over my thighs and ass, he alternates
between gentle and desperate, stroking one second and gripping the next. Making
me groan around the thrust of his tongue. Making me rock into that thick,
steely ridge lodged between us.
“Allie, tell me this isn’t a mistake.”
I need more of his mouth, more of his kiss. More of
his huge chest pressing hot and hard against my own so I can’t feel anything
but him. “It’s not a mistake.”
It’s critical. Necessary.
It’s my first full breath in weeks, months. “We
just—we just need to get it out of our system. That’s all.”
His nostrils flare, and his eyes burn over me as
his hand tightens in my hair. “I don’t think—” But instead of finishing
whatever he was going to say, he blows out a harsh breath and gives me a single
nod.
And then I have it, the crush of his kiss.
