Excerpt 1

My boyfriend stepped into the room, and the first thing I caught notice of was his black tuxedo. He was typically dressed in casual attire, with jeans a t-shirt, so seeing him all dressed up was a bit of a surprise. His short dark hair was even slicked back with some type of gel and his green eyes met mine.
“You look beautiful,” he said, staring at the dress. “Kristen made a good choice.”
I snorted. “You only like it because it shows off my boobs.”
He shrugged. “Nothing wrong with that.”
Although we officially started dating, there was still a bit of awkwardness between us. I hoped that eventually it’d go away, but for now, I blushed at his comment. “There’s everything wrong with that.”
Ignoring my statement, he said, “Are you all ready to go?”

“As ready as I’ll ever be,” I said. “I just don’t know how much more of this I can handle.” Philip reached out and grabbed my hand. “Don’t worry. Whatever happens, we’ll get through it together.”

Interview with Alec John Belle
  1. What is your favorite part of this book and why?
My favorite part of the book is a little after the middle. There’s a twist that I’ve been waiting to share with the readers since before I even wrote the first book. It’s nice to finally be able to get that out there and not have to cringe any time someone gets it right LOL!
  1. If you could spend time with a character from your book whom would it be? And what would you do during that day?
Kadin, for sure. He’s my favorite character out of the whole series. If I were hanging out with him, we’d definitely go to The Aether, his home place. We’d also be good at sleuthing together!
  1. If you could have been the author of any book ever written, which book would you choose?
It actually wouldn’t be a book, but a book series—The Hollows by Kim Harrison.
  1. Are your characters based off real people or did they all come entirely from your imagination?
Not a single one of the characters are based off real people! It always amazes me because people would think it’s easier to create characters based off others, but to be totally honest, it’s way easier to just have a fictional person fall into my head.
  1. What made you want to become a writer?
Ever since I was a kid, I loved storytelling. Books would just capture my attention all the time, and slowly I started coming up with stuff by myself. Being able to create a whole world in your head and put it on paper is a talent that should be valued way more than it is. I also love writing contemporary novels about issues on suicide, self-harm, addiction, mental illness, and death. I’m told all the time just how much my books have changed someone’s life and that is the best feeling in the world.
